Artist Statement

I made this well into quarantine. I started to feel like I was just floating through day-to-day. I’m confined to my house, a place I love, but it just keeps getting smaller and smaller until it feels like I’m trapped in a jar. Strawberries are something that I’ve been eating a lot because they make me happy. I used watercolor and lined it with fine lining markers and used chalk markers for the strawberries and in the blouse. There isn’t a lid on the jar because I’m containing myself in the jar, not allowed to leave, but there is no real “lid” keeping me in. I used the beautiful turquoise for the water, one because it’s tranquil, and two because it’s the color of the walls of my bedroom, in which I am contained.
