Cabin Fever

Artist Statement

My name is Ava Grabinski, I am fifteen years old, and a Freshman at Sauk Rapids-Rice High School. My mentor Justine, helped me choose my medium and taught me about it. My piece for this session was an embroidered cloth. I used embroidery thread, cotton cloth, and an embroidery hoop. My piece is an image looking out onto a lake.

The world is a crazy place where everything moves fast. There are a lot of stresses in the world. My piece was inspired by my grandparents’ cabin. The cabin is a place where I can get away from the stress in my life and I can just sit in the silence. I can be with my family and enjoy time with them. It is a place where I can feel peace.

With the help of Justine, I have found that I could do something I have never tried before. Justine taught me how to embroider from the beginning. I would like to thank Justine for helping me learn something new. I would like to thank Mrs. Chilson for introducing me to PV and making me join. I would also like to thank all of the mentors and everyone who made PV possible so that I could participate in it.
