Lifted Hands For a Friend Who Calls Me His

Artist Statement

My name is Justine Miller, I am nineteen years old and this is my first session being a mentor. During this session I created a hand of worship - Lifted Hands For a Friend Who Calls Me His. To create this piece I used an embroidery hoop, embroidery floss, fabric, some watercolors and a needle.

When I worship my Father with song I feel an undeniable joy in my heart. I feel closest to my savior when my hands are lifted to Him. This joy I have comes from the Father, because of Him I can shout joyfully and sing with a never ending smile on my face. Psalm 100, verses 1-3 says,

“Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.
Worship the Lord with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs.
Know that the Lord is God.
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.”

This verse says that we are His, the Sheep of His pasture. In the past I have struggled with identity and purpose. Now, I am so glad to say that I AM HIS. I find peace knowing that the Father holds everything for me in His hands. I chose to create a hand because of the significance it has to my relationship to my Savior. I know the Father holds my heart in his hands and I know that my hands can be used as a loving tool to worship Him.

This session will hold a special place in my heart, I am grateful to have been a mentor to some really rad students. Every one of the students' stories is so valued and I was blessed to hear them all. If I could give YFC a hug, I would. Youth For Christ has been encouraging me to chase my dreams since day one. Thank you to every person involved with PV/PA, you are all such a blessing.
