Creation in Quarantine

Artist Statement

Hello, my name is Cecil Nesgoda, I am seventeen and I attend distance learning through Apollo highschool. My mentor for this session was Paul Burris and Angela Chilson. My piece is called “Creation in Quarantine” and it’s the digital piece that has a boy creating art in his room during the quarantine. I made this in a program called Clip Studio Paint.

With this piece, my AP art teacher had told us that we should all make a piece that is about the situation at hand; the pandemic and quarantine. With that idea in mind, I decided to show what my experience in quarantine has been like since for the first two weeks of quarantine all I really did was art. After that, I got really unmotivated with a messed up sleeping schedule and a slight mixture of getting pretty depressed. It’s all fine now though, I have Animal Crossing New Horizons and Fire Emblem Three Houses to play. There were a lot of different images I chose that showed the contrast between the safety of indoors and the danger that the outside held. In the window, I tried to show the danger of a pandemic and how terrifying it can for those who are at risk. I chose the media I did because I got a new laptop and I got Clip Studio Paint as well.

Overall, having PV to attend gave me a bit more motivation to do art over quarantine. It’s been nice to see people I haven’t seen in person over call in Zoom while we do art together. I’ve been able to feel happy talking to them. Although it almost has seemed like less and less people are showing up every week, I think it’s nice to talk to the people who do stay. Overall, thank you for reading this, person. I hope you have a good day or night and remember to wash your hands.
