Artist Statement

My name is Xander Snyder. I'm 17 and homeschooled. My mentor’s Paul Burris and he was kind enough to guide/assist me in creating this piece, without him I wouldn’t have one ready in time for the show. The name of my piece is Super Scary Monster. For the drawing I used pencil, color pencil, and pen.

I have had this idea in my head for a long time, and that is to create a comic called Idiocy. Last semester I created a piece that was more of a cover to the book, this piece is more like a poster. I haven’t made any pages of Idiocy yet because I’m not content with my level of skill in art, but someday Idiocy will move on from just an idea in the back of my head to a full fledged comic book and I can’t wait!

I chose pencil, color pencil, and pen because that is what I'm most confident in. I may not be all that skilled in drawing but at least I know my way around a pencil.

Because of Paul (who I am very thankful for) my mentor, I have learned some useful things in the art of drawing, like shading for example. I also want to thank my mom for reminding me to finish my piece and reminding me to write this.
