My name is David Hasbargen. I am in 11th grade and currently doing school from home. This project was started with a slab of wood and an idea. I carved the river out with a saw and then performed the japanese technique called shou sugi ban, which consists of burning the wood. The tree was designed with tin foil and plaster.
In the summer of 2019 I had some of my greatest experiences of God in my life. One of these came from considering Psalm 1, which I have since memorized. In this chapter, the psalmist compares an upright man to a tree which soaks up and is nourished by a river, which represents God’s words. This idea has dramatically affected my life so I thought it would be super cool to do an art project on it.
I would like to thank everyone who makes this program happen. It truly is a great community to be in and grow with. I would also like to specifically thank Shane for helping me put all of my ideas into a piece of art that I can present.
