A Glimpse of Grace

Artist Statement

A depiction of a sweet exchange captured by a friend on my wedding day as my mother helped me with my dress. This is one of my most treasured pictures from that incredibly special day. Not just the moment captured, but how much of our relationship it encapsulates. For as long as I have known her, this is the position she has taken, one of putting others first, serving -making my life better, regardless of the cost to her. To a fault, she will consider others' needs over her own. See I'm fully dressed and ready and she hasn't had the chance to apply makeup (though she really has no need for it) or do her hair or even get on her own dress.

She has given me a front row seat to the goodness and grace of God in her life. She has struggled and battled in this life and she hasn't tried to hide it from me. Recently some of her health struggles have made me realize there is so much of her I've taken for granted. That's part of why I wanted to do a piece honoring her. I really want her to know not only how much I see her but how much ·I appreciate her sacrifice of her own life to invest in me and my dreams. So much of who I am today is because of her.

This piece was a different challenge for me as my mom has been one of my biggest cheerleaders jumping into the world of art (she won't call herself it but she's an artist). She's been my refining eye for so much of my art, up for late night critiques and discussions on what she loves about each one. I act like I only want to know what can improve but I love her compliments most.

I'm so thankful for the opportunity to be a part of PV alongside mentors who have the same heart! Thank you to each of the PV students, you are the reason we come each week, each of you are so incredibly valuable! Also thank you to you reading this now, for coming to our show. Being able to share this with you is so valuable to us! Thank you for making the time to interact with our art!
