Sung And The Other Guy

Artist Statement

For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12 WMB

My artwork called “Sung And The Other Guy” is an attempt to give physical representation to this struggle. The characters in the middle are spiritmen. They stand ready to battle demons. The floating skulls represent the influences that seem to permeate the atmosphere of our world. I think that if I had a better understanding of the intensity of spiritual warfare I would pray more and hold more tightly to Jesus.

Sung and Stephen (the other guy) are new characters who are being introduced into a comic book series that I illustrate called Spiritman. They represent the spiritual side of ourselves and wear the armor of God that is described in Ephesians chapter 6. Stephen is called “the other guy” because I couldn’t remember his name and I needed to call him something. The writer of Spiritman recently looked through his notes and informed me that “the other guy’s” name is “Stephen,” so now we both know.
