Artist Statement

Hello everyone, it is nice to be with you in spirit. I am a Junior at Kimball Area High School. My piece is the one covered in wire. I wanted to create art that had a meaning behind it and luckily this year was the inspiration. So one good thing came out of 2020. To create the tree, I twisted together different types of wire until I was satisfied with the result. I attached the tree to the hand I created by plastering my hand. Plastering my own hand was an interesting experience.

The inspiration of this piece was this year. My 2020 year was a roller coaster of emotion. From going into quarantine a few days before my birthday to being unable to sing normally in choir. This year seemed to only consist of loss. It really hurt me to continuously lose what I thought was going to be an amazing year. 2020 was very unrooting for me. It exposed a lot of things in my life I had been refusing to look at. I know that God is always there, especially when I think I lost Him too.

I am so thankful to my fellow PVA students and the mentors. They all made me feel excited to come to PV and make some art. I also want to thank my mom and dad who love me no matter what and are always willing to lend an ear.

Thanks for coming! I’m praying you have a safe and happy holiday! :)
