Artist Statement

Hi, I’m Courtney Fischer, I am 16 years old and I am currently a sophomore at Litchfield High School. I made my piece with ink, alcohol marker, acrylic paint, graphite, and colored pencil. This piece was not what I was thinking would be my final piece. Once I decided on a self portrait I started with a grid to mark out where everything was going to go, then I started to sketch, and put in all of the details.

I have found through many difficult friendships I have become insecure of many different things, and that is how I thought of this piece. The different mediums are meant to contrast with the rest making that certain feature stand out. Another reason I decided to do this piece is because I don’t like drawing myself. Except for elementary, I have only drawn myself twice. Saying that, I felt oddly inspired to do a self portrait.

I definitely plan to come back as it, not only was my first time at PV, but also I made many new and amazing friends. One thing I loved about PV is how inclusive, kind, and supportive everyone at PV is. I definitely like to thank Leanna for all of the laughs, motivation, and guidance during this session. I would also like to thank my therapist for telling me about PV and encouraging me to do it.
