Artist Statement

Hi, my name is Merritt, and I’m 16 years old and a junior at Sauk Rapids-Rice High School! My mentor is Angie Chilson and my piece is called Rescue Story (such things will be explained in a moment) and my medium was colored pencil. So this year has been rough with COVID but God has done miraculous things with my life! June 21 also known as Father’s day, was a day of crazy miracles.

That day, I gave up my fight of wanting to have my dad be there for me. All of my life I had clung to the fact that I might see my dad one day in the future. But alas, this did not happen. For that day I gave up the fight of thinking I was my parents (or following in their shoes) and gave my life to Jesus fully and completely.

Now, you might be thinking what does that have to do with your little character??? I must say she was lost now, found she was blind and now can see a bright future! She is a child of the creator-father and is a marvelous wonder created in his immaculate glory.

One thing I gained from this session is that the lord will do things in his own timing. I’m thankful for Angie, my mentor and my mamma for helping me through this difficult day of my life! Also thanks to my Abba Father for pushing me through my life.
